Soochow University was established by Missionaries of the Methodist Church in 1900 at Suzhou (formerly spelled Soochow), making it China’s first western-style university. Re-established in Taiwan in 1951, it became the first private university on the island. To live up to its motto, “Unto a full grown man,” Soochow University strives to provide quality teaching, and is determined to do its absolute best to produce mature graduates with creative and practical abilities. Soochow University currently consists of two campuses. The Waishuanghsi Campus is located in suburban Taipei with picturesque scenery near the National Palace Museum. The Downtown Campus is close to the political and financial hub of Taipei city. Both campuses are easily accessible by public transportation with abundant resources for teaching and researching. With the impressive facilities and efficient administration, Soochow University offers the best possible teaching and learning environment for students and faculty members as well. Soochow University remains the only university in Taiwan receiving more than NT$100 million of annual grants from the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Excellence Projects for six consecutive years.
