Guided by the motto” Unto a Full-Grown Man,” Soochow University, founded 113 years ago, aims at cultivating professional competence and social competitiveness among our students. President Pan, Wei-Ta (潘維大) further places greater emphasis on “caring capability,” meaning students are expected to take one step beyond their life experience and knowledge base and begin to show their concern toward certain specific fields, phenomenon, ethnic groups, or social issues. To help elevate self-expectation and broaden horizon for our students, President Pan launched the Quanta Masters Lecture Program-- “Responsibility and Concern of the Elite in Contemporary Era,” starting in February 2013. The program was made possible through special funding and resources from Quanta Computer and Chairman Barry Lam (林百里) who over the years has formed a special bond with Soochow University.

With their examples or through sharing of their exceptional experiences, students at Soochow will be well-led into the various fields of concerns; college education, aesthetic perception in culture, humanism, the disadvantaged, mind status, science, health, internationalism, development of national policy, philosophy, life science, life, and universal perspectives. Greatly inspired, our students will be able to enhance caring and cognizing capabilities, while through the process of acquisition and comprehension, they are at the same time also gradually engaging the society.
