In order to reach new exchange agreements and enhance the profile of SU, Dean Sea-Wain Yau and Serena Huang of the Office of Cross Strait & International Exchange travelled to Los Angeles, USA to participate in the NAFSA2017 Annual Conference & Expo of the American Association of Educators (NAFSA). This annual conference is the world’s largest conference among institutes of higher education discussing topics on international students, student/scholar exchange, and campus internationalization, attracting over 10,000 educators annually from over 100 countries around the world. This year saw joint participation from 19 schools from Taiwan.
During the exhibition period, in addition to university representatives from countries such as the United States, France, Norway, the Czech Republic, and New Zealand discussing cooperation and exchange matters, SU participated for the first time in the event’s Poster Fair as the sole participant selected from among the Taiwanese universities. In addition to SU’s poster providing an introduction to the schools international exchange program, it also included programs of special cooperation such as Soochow Academic Summer Camp and the 3+1 Program, as a joint training project carried out with Fuzhou University (FU) in China. Not only did the activity attract the attention of participants, but SU’s attendees also learned from the int’l exchange experiences of other universities at the event and were able to further demonstrate the fruits of its internationalization efforts via this enhanced visibility.
After the annual event, SU’s two delegates participated in the Returning Upstream: Taiwan Education Fair organized by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. This event was held for attendees of families of Taiwan origin interested in returning to Taiwan for Chinese-language or other studies. They then participated in events with southern California aluni to round out their US trip to a successful conclusion.
