The Office of Cross Strait and Academic Exchange (ICAE) hosted its farewell dinner with this semester’s batch of departing exchange students at the Hai Pa Wamg restaurant on the evening of June 6, 2017. Between the preparations by the ICAE and the outstanding performances by the students themselves, one event highpoint was reached after another to make the event an evening full of merriment.
Attendees at this year’s event were enough to fill 32 tables; the event was preceded with a word of blessing from President Pan and Vice-President Tung. The two then commenced the festivities with an opening speech.
The night’s first performance featured Soochow University (China) exchange student Chen Nuanman and student volunteer group member and event host Guo Dazhong in a violin duet. The pair moved the audience with their elegance and exquisite violin skills. Their performance was followed by a rousing dance number by Soochow University (China) student Zheng Jinghua. Her arrival on the floor immediately energized the crowd. Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine exchange student Lee Fangzhou, Wu Jingyi, Zhou Haomin, and Shen Yaling then performed a drama piece entitled “Formosa Exchange—Let’s Go!”
The piece was a vivid portrayal of the new life and unique experiences exchange students encounter when coming to Taiwan, which had a special resonance with every one of the attendees. The final performance was by the 3+1 program cooperated with Fuzou University, students Chen Xuefeng, Fang Yuhan, and Huang Xinxin singing Jay Chou’s “Love Confession”. The brisk and light mood of the tune caused many in the audience to clap and hum along, which set the stage for a warm and heartfelt card recitation.
The high point of the evening was when the student volunteer member host Guo Dazhong and student host Liu Jingzhuang went off the stage and into the audience to interact/joke with the attendees. Students then took turns in a prize drawing. Exchange student Wen Tian from Guizhou University said: “My heartfelt thanks to SU, which from our first semester has looked after us. I also want to thank the personnel from the ICAE for their investments of time and energy!…And thanks to SU for enabling us the opportunity to meet so many new friends, see so many new things, understand new ways of thinking, and to form new outlooks on the world.”
In addition to the wonderful performances, the entire audience participated in a lucky draw. From the baked treats with the school logo and motto stamped on them, to the thermal insulator mugs, to the SU-themed toy building blocks, all members became more delighted. The final prizes were drawn by the president, which were SU-branded thermal hoodies given out to four lucky students.
Thank you to all the professors who came and to all the members of the ICAE and student volunteers for their hard work to make this event a success. We believe every student in attendance felt the warmth of SU and will return to their home countries with a smile and heart full of memories.
